Fire Department Responses: I-5 Crashes, Car Vs. Motorcycle on Highway 99

Snohomish County Fire District One makes 386 calls the week of Aug. 9-15.

Snohomish County Fire District 1 responded to 368 calls the week of August 9-15: 286 emergency medical aid calls, 21 motor vehicle collisions, 23 fires, 21 service calls, one natural gas leak, one hazardous materials call and 15 automatic fire alarms.

Aug. 10

COLLISION: At 4:45 p.m., a car crashed into a retaining wall on southbound I-5 at the 236th Street SW exit in Mountlake Terrace. The air bags deployed and the driver was seriously injured. Firefighters transported the driver to Harborview Medical Center.

COOKING FIRE: At 7:53 p.m., firefighters responded to a cooking fire at a home in the 21900 block of 54th Avenue West in Mountlake Terrace. The fire was contained to the stove top.

BRUSH FIRE: At 11:32 p.m., firefighters extinguished a brush fire at an apartment complex in the 15900 block of Highway 99 north of Lynnwood.

Aug. 13

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS RESPONSE: At 9:17 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a chemical spill at a business in the 2600 block of 162nd Street SW north of Lynnwood. As a precaution, the building was evacuated while the spill was contained. No one sustained any injuries or suffered any ill effects as a result of the spill.

COLLISION: At 5:13 p.m., a three-car accident was reported at the intersection of 156th Street SW and 52nd Avenue W north of Lynnwood. Firefighters transported one patient with minor injuries to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

COLLISION: At 10:10 p.m., a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the 23100 block of 56th Avenue W in Mountlake Terrace. The vehicle left the scene after the incident occurred. Firefighters transported the injured  pedestrian to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

Aug. 14

COLLISION: At 4:23 p.m., a three-car accident occurred at 164th Street SW and North Road east of Lynnwood. Firefighters transported two patients to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

Aug. 15

DECK FIRE: At 1:26 p.m., firefighters extinguished a small fire on an apartment deck near 156th Street SW and 35th Avenue West north of Lynnwood.

COLLISION: At 2:24 p.m., a car struck a motorcycle in the 21900 block of Highway 99 in Edmonds. Firefighters transported the motorcyclist Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

COLLISION: At 11:24 p.m., firefighters responded to a one-car, rollover collision on southbound I-5 south of 164th St. SW. The driver of the car died in the collision.

Fire District 1 is the largest provider of fire and emergency medical services in Snohomish County, with full-time staffing at 12 fire stations. The department serves nearly 200,000 residents in unincorporated south Snohomish County, Brier, Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace and Woodway.
