Fire Department Responses: Collisions Keep Fire Department Busy

Snohomish County Fire District One makes 442 calls the week of Jan. 19-25.

Snohomish County Fire District 1 responded to 422 calls the week of Jan. 19-25: 303 emergency medical aid calls, 32 fires, 31 motor vehicle collisions, 24 service calls, 27 automatic fire alarms, two natural gas leaks and three carbon monoxide alarms.

January 19

COLLISION. At 7:09 a.m., a sports utility vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier on the ramp from southbound SR 525 to southbound I-405. Another car crashed into the sports utility vehicle. The impact pushed the sports utility vehicle into a transportation worker who was attempting to assist at the accident scene. Firefighters transported the seriously injured transportation worker to Harborview Medical Center.

ROLLOVER COLLISION. At 4:28 p.m., firefighters responded to a one-car rollover collision on southbound I-5 north of Lynnwood. Three patients—two adults and a child—were transported by medics to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

GARAGE FIRE. At 8:38 a.m., firefighters responded to a fire in the garage of a home in the 21500 block of Elm Drive in Brier. One woman was home when the fire broke out. She safely exited the house. Firefighters contained the fire to the garage and attic. One car parked inside the garage was a total loss. The living area of the house sustained heavy smoke damage. Damage is estimated at more than $200,000. Investigators have not determined how the fire started.

COLLISION. At 9:19 a.m., firefighters transported one patient to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital after responding to a two-car collision in the 8100 block of Lake Ballinger Way in Edmonds.

January 21

COLLISION. At 2:01 p.m., firefighters transported one patient to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital after responding to a collision at 206th St. SW and 76th Ave. W in Edmonds.

COLLISION. At 3:10 p.m., firefighters responded to a two-car collision blocking traffic at 244th St. SW and 56th Ave. W in Mountlake Terrace. Two patients were transported by medics to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

DRYER FIRE. At 8:35 p.m., firefighters extinguished a fire in a clothes dryer at a home in the 4400 block of 240th St. SW in Mountlake Terrace. No one was injured and the fire was contained to the dryer.

January 23

HOUSE FIRE. At 5:16 a.m., firefighters extinguished a fire at a home in the 20800 block of 23rd Ave. W east of Lynnwood.  The homeowners—an elderly couple—safely exited their home. The house was full of smoke and an orange glow could be seen inside a second-floor window as firefighters arrived. They kept the fire contained to one bedroom, but there was heavy smoke damage throughout the house. An investigator from the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s office determined the cause of the fire was electrical.

COLLISION. At 7:42 a.m., firefighters transported one patient to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital after responding to a two-car collision in the 6600 block of 244th Ave. W in Mountlake Terrace.

COLLISION. At 8:26 a.m., one car went off the road and crashed at Butternut Road and Maple Road east of Lynnwood. Firefighters transported one patient to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

COLLISION. At 9:07 a.m., firefighters responded to a five-car collision on southbound I-5 north of 196th St. SW. One patient was transported to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

PEDESTRIAN HIT BY CAR. At 3:06 p.m., a pedestrian was hit by a car at 236th St. SW and 52nd Ave. W. Firefighters transported the 18-year-old woman to Harborview Medical Center.
