Fire Department Responses: Collision at 228th St. SW and Highway 99

Snohomish County Fire District One makes 392 calls the week of Aug. 23-29.

Snohomish County Fire District 1 responded to 392 calls the week of Aug. 23 – 29: 301 emergency medical aid calls, 19 motor vehicle collisions, 35 fires, 14 service calls, 1 gas leak, 1 technical rescue and 21 automatic fire alarms.

Aug. 23

COLLISION: At 5:13 p.m., firefighters responded to a three-car collision at 156th Street SW and Highway 99 north of Lynnwood.  No one was seriously injured.

COLLISION: At 6:00 p.m., a two-car collision occurred at 228th Street SW and Highway 99 in Edmonds. One car left the scene, but the driver pulled over two blocks away. Firefighters transported two patients with minor injuries to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

COLLISION: At 6:39 p.m., a three-car collision occurred at 128th Street SW and 8th Avenue W south of Everett. Firefighters transported one patient with minor injuries to Swedish/Mill Creek Emergency Room.

Aug.  26

RESCUE: At 5:21 p.m., Fire District 1 rescue technicians assisted the Lynnwood Fire Department in the rescue of a Lynnwood police officer who fell off a 20-foot retaining wall while attempting to apprehend a suspect in the 3000 block of 196th Street SW in Lynnwood. The seriously injured police officer was transported by Lynnwood medics to Harborview Medical Center.

HOUSE FIRE: At 7:08 p.m., firefighters extinguished a fire that caused more than $30,000 damage to a house in the 8200 block of Sierra Drive in Edmonds. No one was injured. The fire damaged a small area of siding, wall and ceiling. Investigators determined the fire was started by young children playing with a firework.

Aug.  27

BRUSH FIRE: At 9:06 a.m., firefighters extinguished a brush fire near a building at a business park in the 12400 block of Highway 99 south of Everett. No one was injured.

HOUSE FIRE: At 9:37 a.m., firefighters extinguished a fire that caused more than $300,000 damage to a house in the 3900 block of 166th Street SE east of Everett.  No one was at home; however, two dogs were rescued by firefighters.  Investigators were unable to determine how the fire started.

HOUSE FIRE: At 12:47 p.m., firefighters responded to a house fire in the 21200 block of Popular Way in Brier.  No one was at home and no injuries were reported.  The damage was contained to a bedroom and the attic and is estimated at $50,000.  A family of four was displaced by the blaze. Investigators were unable to determine how the fire started.

COLLISION: At 3:32 p.m., firefighters responded to a car that crashed into a brick wall at 156th Street SW and Highway 99 north of Lynnwood.  No one was injured.

COLLISION: At 5:18 p.m., firefighters responded to a three-car collision on the off-ramp from northbound I- 5 to 44th Avenue W in Lynnwood.  No one was injured.

COLLISION: At 5:30 p.m., a two-car collision occurred in the 16300 block of E Shore Drive east of Lynnwood.  Firefighters transported one patient with minor injuries to Swedish/Mill Creek Emergency Room.

Aug. 28

SMOKE INVESTIGATION: At 12:32 a.m., the staff at Swedish/Edmonds Hospital reported smoke and an odor of burning plastic in the Emergency Room. The Emergency Room was evacuated and shut down while firefighters searched for the source of the smoke and odor. Firefighters set up large fans to clear the smoke, but could not find the source. Once the air was clear, the emergency room reopened.

FIRE: At 6:38 p.m., firefighters responded to a fire in a mobile home in the 11500 block of Meridian Avenue S south of Everett. A sheriff’s deputy used a fire extinguisher to douse most of the flames. Firefighters arrived to find a small pile of smoldering ash and cigar butts that had been disposed of in the trash. Firefighters extinguished a hot spot in the flooring and cleared the smoke from the mobile home.

Aug. 29

CLOTHES DRYER FIRE: At 3:25 a.m., an alarm system alerted firefighters to a fire in a clothes dryer at a senior living facility in the 3330 block of 148th Street SW north of Lynnwood. The sprinkler system kept the flames in check and firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. Investigators believe the fire was started by a plastic item that melted and ignited inside the dryer after accidentally getting mixed in with a load of cloth napkins.

Fire District 1 is the largest provider of fire and emergency medical services in Snohomish County, with full-time staffing at 12 fire stations. The department serves nearly 200,000 residents in unincorporated south Snohomish County, Brier, Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace and Woodway.
