Edmonds Police Join Others in Carrying Torch for Special Olympics
The 2012 Law Enforcement Torch Run was held on Friday.
On June 1, officers from Edmonds and Mountlake Terrace police departments, joined by 911 dispatchers from SNOCOM Dispatch Center, participated in the 2012 Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of Special Olympics.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is an event in which officers carry the Flame of Hope to the opening ceremony of our local Special Olympics competition. The games this year ran from June 1 through June 3 at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
The Torch Run started in Blaine, near the Canadian border, and continued south, mainly along State Route 99, with the final destination the Washington Special Olympics Games at JBLM.

The 17 police officers and 911 dispatchers, the largest group in the state, received the Special Olympics torch in the 21000 block of SR 99 and carried it to 244th Street SW, where it was transferred to officers from the Shoreline Police Department.
In addition, a support group of volunteers from all three agencies assisted with traffic control, support vehicles and photography of the event.
