Following is a news release from the Edmonds Police Department.
On September 25, 2013 the Edmonds Police Department was visited by four representatives of the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC) who were asked to conduct an assessment to determine compliance with standards required of accredited law enforcement agencies in the state of Washington. The Edmonds Police Department received its accreditation award from WASPC in 2009 and must undergo a full assessment every four years to maintain accredited status.
The WASPC Law Enforcement Accreditation process is a lengthy and rigorous audit of a police department’s operations, policies, practices and facilities to assure that all facets are in compliance with the WASPC Accreditation Standards for Law Enforcement, the established best practice standards for law enforcement agencies in this state.
The Edmonds Police Department is proud to announce that after a day of examining policies, inspecting the department, equipment and operations and spending time interviewing rank-and-file members, the WASPC assessors found the Edmonds Police Department to be 100% in compliance with all of the state accreditation standards. The WASPC assessment team was very complimentary of the department’s operations, policies and personnel.
The WASPC accreditation team leader will present the team’s report to the WASPC Accreditation Commission at the WASPC Fall Conference beginning the week of November 18th, recommending that the Edmonds Police Department be re-accredited by WASPC through the year 2017.
