Edmonds Police Arrest Suspected Mail Thieves Near Lake Ballinger

An alert neighbor contacted the department.

Edmonds police have arrested two suspects on suspicion of mail theft.

On Tuesday morning at 8:37 a.m., police responded to a report of mail theft in the 23800 block of 74th Avenue West in the Lake Ballinger neighborhood.

According to Sgt. Mike Blackburn, an alert neighbor observed a 26-year-old white female and 31-year-old white male taking mail out of neighborhood mailboxes and putting it into a bag they carried.

The witness informed police that the suspects were not known to the Edmonds neighborhood. Within three minutes, the first police officer arrived and saw the suspicious couple walking a short distance from the crime scene.

The couple nervously tried to explain their presence in the area by stating they were out for a walk, said Blackburn. While the officer spoke to the suspects, an assisting police officer contacted the witness, who positively identified the couple as those observed stealing mail moments earlier.

The suspects were arrested, and stolen property was found in their possession. After obtaining a search warrant, police checked the contents of the suspects’ large shoulder-type bag. Inside, they recovered more than 40 separate pieces of stolen mail belonging to nine different victims.

The man and woman were booked at the Snohomish County Jail.

If you want to know what it's like to have your religion disrespected, try having school camps,Read More orchestra and band concerts and back-to-school nights on the holiest of your religious holidays (equivalent to Christmas and Easter). Everyone knows that an egg hunt is an Easter event whether it's called that or not. Everyone know that a holiday tree is really a Christmas tree. Trust me, the atheists and/or non-Christians are not trying to destroy Christianity. First, it would be impossible. Second, it would be too dangerous to us personally. Last, I personally respect other's traditions, but I'm not sure the same can always be said in reverse.

Don't we have more important things to worry about? Easter Egg, Egg Hunt, who cares? It's a funRead More community event. And thank you to the sponsers that make this happen.

First of all, the government is not supposed to promote any religion. Secondly, the Easter bunnyRead More and egg hunt has no historical religious significance that I can think of, even though this is part of an American tradition. I am good with deleting the word Easter, and would like to see a departure from any emphasis on candy, which only compounds the diabetic epidemic in this country. Sometimes it is good to rethink the wisdom of something simply because it is a "tradition".
