Edmonds PD Investigating Animal Cruelty, One Arrested

Update, 6:40 p.m. May 14: A 44-year-old Edmonds woman was jailed Tuesday after authorities investigating possible animal cruelty found 14 dogs at a residence--nine more than legally allowed.Police served a search warrant at a house in the 23600 block of 76th Ave. W., which had been the subject of a YouTube video that showed several dogs appearing to gang up on one dog, according to a statement from Edmonds Police.

Two of the 14 dogs were injured--one with multiple bite wounds, the other with a leg injury--and were taken to a veterinarian for treatment. Only five of the dogs were properly licensed, as city ordinance only allows five domestic animals, police said. All 14 dogs were impounded.

The woman was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for allegedly violating that ordinance, a misdemeanor. Police are continuing to investigate possible animal cruelty in the case, with charges pending.

Original story:

Edmonds Police and and Animal Control officers are investigating an alleged animal cruelty case involving about 10 dogs after being tipped off to a video posted on YouTube depicting cruelty.

Sgt. Mark Marsh said it's not clear yet exactly what the extent of the abuse could be or the condition of the individual dogs.

After the Edmonds Police Department was made aware of the video depicting possible animal cruelty involving those dogs at a residence in Edmonds in the 23600 block of 76th Ave W, they immediately started an investigation in collaboration with Edmonds Police Animal Control officers. Detectives worked with the Snohomish County prosecutor’s office in applying for a search warrant for the property where the incident occurred.

Animal Control officers will look into the number of dogs on the property, the condition of any kennel facility for the animals and the physical welfare of the dogs. Any dogs deemed to be in poor health or needing medical attention will be impounded as well as any dogs on the property over the legal limit of 5 or any unlicensed animals.
