Edmonds College Student Hurt in Hit-and-Run in Bellingham

The 18-year-old suffered a serious arm injury when she was struck after getting off a bus, according to published reports.

The family of an 18-year-old Western Washington University student from Edmonds is offering a $1,000 reward to catch the hit-and-run driver who struck her in Bellingham, The Associated Press reported.

Mackenzie O'Brien and a friend were struck from behind by a car with its lights off after they got off a bus at about 11 p.m. Friday, The Bellingham Herald reported. They and a group of friends were crossing the street on their way to a party.

O’Brien, an Edmonds-Woodway High School graduate, suffered an artery injury to her right arm, and doctors considered amputating, She had to be driven to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle because it was too foggy for the airlift flight, her father, David O’Brien, told The Herald.

Her 19-year-old friend was treated at a Bellingham hospital and released.
