Bail Set at $250,000 for Bothell Woman in Fatal Police Chase Crash

Forty-two-year-old Shellie Rose Collins is charged with vehicular homicide and vehicular assault, but charges could be upgraded to murder

Bail was set at $250,000 for a 42-year-old Bothell woman with a long history of drug and driving offenses who police say crashed into a van in Lynnwood during a police chase last Friday, killing a 72-year-old man.

According to the Everett Herald, Shellie Rose Collins appeared in Everett District Court Tuesday handcuffed to a wheelchair. She is charged with vehicular homicide and vehicular assault, and Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Tobin Darrow said Tuesday he is considering charging her with first- or second-degree murder.

Police say they suspected Collins and a male passenger of drug activity and attempted to pull her over. She fled, reaching speeds of 80 mph and ran red lights before her vehicle T-boned the victim’s van at 212th Street SW.

The crash was the second fatal high-speed chase incident in two week in Snohomish County, and  has prompted an internal review by Lynnwood police of their chase policy.

Lynnwood Police Department spokeswoman Shannon Sessions said all such cases are subject to review.

"We do the best job we can in protecting public safety, but we don't always know the outcome," Sessions said. "We are upset how this ended and wish that it turned out differently, but the facts are these are career criminals and the driver is being investigated for being under the influence of drugs. She made bad choices along the way and unfortunately it ended up with her colliding with an innocent third party."
