Read to Me

Become a reading-together family. Ideas to get you started or back to sharing books

Whether your child is 2 or 14 or even 20, spending a 20-30 minutes sharing a book is time well spent.

For a young or early elementary child, select a picture book.  My favorites include:

Mercer Mayer's little critters: short text, colorful illustrations and kid-friendly

Harry Potter is great to read and share the fantasy.

Non-fiction books are favorites with this group and encourage conversation.

Adult children and senior family members will enjoy reading aloud/listening to books on tape.

Sharing books aloud is a lost art that is finding its way back and is time well spent. The library has close to unending resources or check with the Edmonds Book Shop for the new releases.

Take the chance to slow down the world for a few minutes each day and interact with family members. Join the return-to-reading surge. Send me your ideas for books you like to share. I'll post it in a later blog.
