5 Test-Taking Tidbits for Students and Their Families

Educating America takes everyone's support. Follow this blog for suggestions in support of students, teachers and volunteers in schools.

Students, age eight and up, are preparing for state and national tests. Their practice tests help them become familiar with the expectations but also make them anxious. How can we as family members help them do their best?

1. Provide nutritious food to 'feed' their bodies as well as their brains.

2. Keep their stress levels low and encourage them to get at least nine hours sleep before tests.

3. Remind them to read the questions before reading the text material.

4. Suggest they read all captions and bullets in the test text and scrutinize all charts, data and illustrations.

5. Eliminate the 'not possible' answers and trust their instinct when doubt creeps into their decisions.
