Letter to the Editor: Tight Parking Makes Shopping Local Difficult in Edmonds

Trudy Madsen writes about a tough parking situation that discourages shoppers.

I tried to shop main street shops and had things I wanted to buy, but there was absolutely no parking within blocks, so after several tries, had to go elsewhere.

(See Where Will You Shop in Edmonds for Small Business Saturday?)

So sad for the wonderful merchants to lose business due to no parking!!!!!

Something must be done soon to save the merchants! They are fully aware of the parking problem, but Edmonds does nothing about it!! So sad, and many, many others have expressed the same problem and will go where there is parking, even if it is to the mall, which would not be their choice.

Wow, really? I can frequently find parking on Sixth, only a block from the Main Street Fountain!

I’m with you Brynn. I frequent Down Town Edmonds and parking, sure might not be happening RIGHT in front of the EXACT store you are trying to go into. But such is life, right? There are plenty of side streets that offer parking. The only thing I can think that would have caused the Park-ageddon for Trudy might have been the tree lighting. I can contest, if you were looking to park on Main Street, you had better chances winning last night’s Power Ball than finding a parking spot. But events like that are what draw people to Edmonds. Knowing the community schedule might also help when considering going to Down Town Edmonds and if you don’t want to deal with parking.

Trudy, while I appreciate your concern for our local businesses, I have to agree with Brynn and Evan on the parking. I am always able to find parking on side streets usually to the North of Main Street and East of Fifth. I don't mind walking a few extra blocks to support our wonderful and unique Edmonds shops. It's no furthur than I walk when I try to park at the mall (and much more scenic). I hope our comments help you to find parking in the future:-)
