Clare Waite Dies: Edmonds Resident Helped The Needy Pay for Electric Bills

The Minnesota native, a longtime force for good in Edmonds, was a case manager for Project Pride, which helps people in need pay their Snohomish County PUD electric bills.

Clare Waite, a longtime resident of Edmonds and a 30-year veteran of the Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross, died Oct. 19 at age 88.

Waite was a case manager for the Red Cross' Project Pride program, which helps people in need pay the Snohomish County PUD electric bills, until her retirement in June of this year. Even though she was officially retired, Waite still managed to volunteer once a week, reported the Herald in an article published in July.

Waite was born in Cloquet, MN, on June 16, 1923. She attended high school in Minnesota and worked in banking before moving to Seattle in 1942.

She worked at Washington Athletic Club in Seattle, where she met Edward B. Waite, a former captain in the Army Air Force. They were married in 1946 and together they raised their five children in Edmonds. Edward died in 1979 and their son, Donald, died in 1989.

Waite is survived by her daughter, Margaret "Peggy"; her three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Viki, James and Jackie and Stephen and Joyce, and their daughter, Kimi. Also surviving are Donald's children, Jennifer, Lindsay, Mark and Andrew; three nieces; and five nephews.

A viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, with a Rosary being said at 7. It will be held at in Edmonds. (Read the full obituary.)

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at in Edmonds, followed by interment at Holyrood Catholic Cemetery in Shoreline.
