More than 400 seniors, including several from the , brought their dancing shoes and holiday spirit to the 27th annual Senior Holiday Party Dec. 12 at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel. Seniors from Seattle-area retirement homes and community centers lined up hours before the event in eager anticipation of the festive holiday party.

“The Senior Holiday Party is a great opportunity to meet other seniors,” said 80-year-old Vilma Wills from Seattle’s Beacon Hill neighborhood. “There are not many activities for the young-at-heart in this area, so the party is cherished by many people who look forward to returning year after year.”

Hotel employees donated their time serving snacks, coffee, tea and a cake made just for the special occasion. Guests filled two dance floors, serenaded by a string quartet from the Seattle Symphony. Entertainment also included a DJ, caricature artist and the arrival of Santa.

“Some of our local seniors don’t have family nearby to celebrate the holidays with, so the Senior Holiday Party is a way for them to connect with others and celebrate the season,” said Matt Van Der Peet, general manager of the Sheraton Seattle Hotel. “It’s a great way to for us to give back and to share the spirit of the holidays.”

Gift bags capped off an afternoon of dancing, socializing and refreshments. Additional gift baskets filled with local and international food items were also raffled off for party-goers.

In addition to the Senior Holiday Party, the Sheraton also gives back during the holiday season with the 19th annual Gingerbread Village, benefiting the Northwest Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and the Providence O’Christmas Tree, which will be on display through Jan. 1.
