Brave or Crazy? Polar Bear Plunge at Brackett's Landing North at 1 p.m. Today

A bunch of supposedly sane people—you might even know of few of them—will hop, skip and jump into the chilly waters of Puget Sound today as part an event celebrated worldwide called the Polar Bear Plunge.

, members of the Edmonds Uplift Society will once again splash into the waters of Bracketts Landing North.

You don't have to be a member to join in the, ah, fun. Anyone is invited to the big splash.

Edmonds' version of the plunge came courtesy of Brian Taylor and other members of the nonprofit Edmonds Uplift Society, which describes itself as a drinking club with a social conscience.

That figures.

Edmonds Uplift Society members will meet at 11 a.m. at Daphnes of Main Street, which Taylor owns (along with the on Fourth Avenue North). At 12:30 p.m., glasses will raise in a toast while members sing “God Bless America.” Those participating will then march down Main Street to Brackett’s Landing, plunging into the chilly waters at 1 p.m.

Fees collecting from existing and new members benefit the Edmonds Historical Museum.

The Edmonds Uplift Society takes its name from an Edmonds Museum photo from the 1930s showing a 1930s social membership group, drinking Rainier beer, with the name "Edmonds Uplift Society."
