An Edmonds Kind of Fourth: Here's the Lineup

Here's your guide to what's happening Wednesday on Independence Day.

Happy 236th birthday, America!

Here's a look at what's happening in Edmonds to celebrate Independence Day on Wednesday:

  • The sixth annual Fourth of July fun run is a 5k run, jog or walk through the heart of  downtown Edmonds, sponsored by Chase Bank. It annually attracts more than 1,000 participants. It starts at City Park, Third Avenue South and Walnut Street. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the race at 10. The cost is $25 per participant. All proceeds benefit An Edmonds Kind of 4th. Register online by going to the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce Web site or pick up a form at the chamber office or at in downtown Edmonds.
  • Of course, the big event is the annual An Edmonds Kind of Fourth Celebration, presented by the Hazel Miller Foundation. The children's parade begins at 11:30 a.m. downtown. The main parade begins at noon downtown. Iditarod veteran and Edmonds native Jan Steves is the grand marshal.
  • The annual Edmonds Fourth of July Waterball Competition begins at 2:30 p.m. at City Park. It's hosted by volunteer firefighters from Snohomish County Fire District 1, which serves Edmonds.
  • Evening entertainment at the Civic Playfield, and Sixth and Bell, begins at 7 p.m. Food vendors will be on hand. Entertainment will be provided by The Side Project.
  • When it gets dark enough, of course, at about 10 p.m., the fireworks show begins.

Have fun, and be safe!
