Strange New Family Moves Into Edmonds Gallery

A new family has just moved into Stunningly Strange Gallery in downtown Edmonds. The family, known as The Family Strange, is a new body of work by local artist and Stunningly Strange Gallery owner, Kaitlin Phillips Goodey. Phillips Goodey will be introducing the first installment of this ongoing project to the public in January with an opening reception held on January 17, 2013 for the Edmonds Third Thursday Art Walk.

Phillips Goodey’s inspiration for this new body of work stems from unusual vintage trick photography and cultures with strong and unique characteristics such as gypsies and carnival people. “The strong character cultures tend to have certain stereotypes about them that seem to be unexplainable,” notes Goodey.

“It is interesting how some people are deemed peculiar due to their unique personality traits,” said Phillips Goodey. “I thought it would be intriguing to create a family where every member has fictitious and exaggerated characteristics that would be unexplainable, but through a paired story makes it almost seem understandable.”

Phillips Goodey is a recent Master of Fine Arts graduate from Washington State University, where she used photography and figurative clay sculptures to explore the stage between youthful imagination and losing ones innocence. She was trained in photography at the Art Institute of Seattle where she earned her Bachelor in Fine Art.

Phillips Goodey has shown in the Washington State University Museum of Art, CUB Gallery, Gallery II, Reidenbach Gallery, Art Not Terminal, Twilight Artist Collective, Gallery III, Tasty Delectable Collectables and internationally at Dollirium Art Doll Emporium along with showing her work at Seattle art fairs and the Fremont market.

Stunningly Strange Gallery is located at 407 Main Street Edmonds WA. Store hours are 10am-6pm, Tuesday through Saturday.
