Vacation Bible School Variety

Local churches offer a plethora of fun and affordable Vacation Bible School camps for kids of all ages.

Summertime is upon us, and after a weekend of sunny skies and warm temps, kids are surely chopping on the bit for school to finally let out for summer break. And while the little ones are always eager for a break from hitting the books, it usually isn’t long until they are moping around the house proclaiming their boredom and shooting down every one of Mom’s afternoon activity suggestions.

This year, stay ahead of the curve and sign the kids up for one of the affordable weeklong vacation bible school camps offered at numerous local churches. Each camp offers a different theme, from exploring space to a wild safari, and each day is filled with fun activities, including singing, crafts, games, snacks, a Biblical message and more! Not only does the camp allow your child to interact with a group of kids, and possibly make some new friends, but those child-free hours allow you a little free time of your own. Clearly, a win-win situation!

We’ve compiled a list of just a few popular VBS camps, most of which happen in June or July. Registration starts early for quite a few of them, so if not listed, check the individual church’s website for more information, including camp costs.

Maplewood Presbyterian, Aug. 7-11. Enjoy crafts, games, friends and fun, and find out what happens when Panda Pete and his herd of wild friends invade the church.

Trinity Lutheran, July 11-16. Embracing the same theme as Maplewood Presbyterian, Trinity Lutheran will be hosting a “PandaMania” VBS for children ages 4 through kids who have completed fourth grade. A separate program called Camp 56 is open for those who have completed fifth and sixth grade.

, July 11-15. A week of games, lessons and Bible stories that culminates in the Beach Bash Carnival on Friday night; the 2011 SonSurf VBS is only $15 per child. Registration begins June 12.

, July 18-22. Learn about the miraculous story of Paul, and practice putting your faith into motion. A weeklong adventure, fellowship and lots of fun! Registration begins June 15.

, July 25-29. Take a journey back in time with the Hometown Nazareth VBS and explore what it would be like to grow up in Jesus’ childhood town. Cost is $40, but scholarships are available.

Edmonds Adventist Church: July 11-15. Another “PandaMania” VBS lets kids explore the Psalm 139 verse and experience God’s hand in their everyday life. Participants can explore a bamboo forest, engage in team-building games and enjoy tasty treats! Registration deadline is July 11.

I was recently informed by one of our readers that Maplewood Presbyterian is not actually hosting a VBS this year, but has the following camp, as she wrote to me: They do however have a Christian based Pirate Camp 2x in August. 8/15-8/19 and 8/22-8/26. 9am-noon $15/day-Optional Lunch Bunch noon-2pm add'l$10/day- ages 3-8. Apologies for the incorrect info.
