Due to rumors of threats to Edmonds-Woodway High School in the wake of the school shooting in Newtown, CT, EWHS principal Miriam Mickelson has released a statement. It was read to students and staff at the end of school today:
I want to take a moment to share with you accurate information regarding a specific concern we received and what steps we took to investigate. There was a rumor of an alleged future threat here at EWHS.
We thoroughly investigated that threat and found it to be unsubstantiated. We understand that at this time there is heightened awareness regarding school safety at schools across the country and its always the correct course of action to report and share information with staff so it can be investigated.
At the same time, however, we all need to be aware of how easily rumors can quickly spread and sometimes they can become inflated or distorted. Your safety and all our safety is our paramount responsibility and priority.
We ask that you continue to partner with us in that effort and speak to a staff member directly and immediately when you have a concern so we can act promptly.
Again, I want to repeat, that we have investigated this alleged rumor of a threat and it has been proven unsubstantiated.
