Soap Suds in the Fountain: Harmless Prank or Danger to Pedestrians?

It's a frothy mess in Edmonds again.

Why does it often seem that the soap-sudsing of the Edmonds fountain happens after school lets out?

Hmm. We'll let you ponder that one.

In any case, it was a fountain 'o bubbles on Wednesday afternoon at Fifth and Main, which led us to some observations:

  • Some drivers scowled as they approached the fountain; others shook their heads. No doubt longtime Edmonds residents.
  • Shoppers took out their cameras to take pictures. One positioned her two young kids at the fountain during a break in cars. That last one's probably not a teachable moment.
  • The suds bubbled along to the intersection leading to El Puerto. Someone slips and breaks something, that would be bad news.
  • Could Starbucks baristas, who have a front-row view of the fountain, be behind the caper? After all, the suds kinda look like foam from a latte ... naw.

Whoever the culprit, and for whatever reason, we suspect it's simply for giggles and grins. To take the edge off boredom.

We bet not all share in the culprit/culprits' joy. For example, those in charge of shutting the fountain down and hosing it off.

It's certainly part of soap opera that is part of life in Edmonds.
