U.S. Senator Patty Murray will discuss job training initiatives at Giddens Industries in Everett at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
Murray plans to discuss the proposed Workforce Investment Act, which provides funding to retrain workers. She will also talk about legislation she's sponsored that would enable high school students to acquire skills training.
Murray is advocating for training programs because recent reports indicate workers aren't prepared to fill the estimated 41,889 vacant positions in the state.
In Snohomish County, 3,500 jobs are open, Washington State Employment Security reported. Giddens Industries, where the event tomorrow is taking place, needs employees trained in manufacturing.
Murray will appear with Giddens Industries President and CEO Dale Peinecke, Workforce Development Council Snohomish County Executive Director Sue Ambler, and local workers.
Giddens Industries is at 2600 94th Street Suite 150 Everett, WA 98204.
