Poll: Should Tanning Salons Be Off Limits to Those Under Age 18?

Senate Bill 6249 would require IDs to enter.

A proposed bill by the Washington Legislature would ban those under 18 from using tanning salons.

Washington currently has no age restriction on tanning beds, reports The Seattle Times. Under the new law, salons would be required to check IDs.

Senate Bill 6249 will next be taken up by the state Senate.

Supporters of the bill say they are concerned about the increased risk of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, which some call an epidemic among young girls.

Tanning salons would supposedly be against any attempt to regulate who frequents them. Teenage girls under 18, especially, are frequent users.
