UPDATE: Edmonds School District Cancels In-Service Day; Winter Driving Tips

Tuesday is no longer a planned in-service day for teachers and administrators in the Edmonds School District.

The Edmonds School District, which had planned for Tuesday as an in-service day for teachers and administrators, has now cancelled it. The district posted the following on its Web site:

  • All other staff normally scheduled to report during inclement weather closures should report as normal; please direct questions to your supervisor.
  • The Educational Services Center (ESC; District Office) will be open regular hours, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, January 17, 2012, is an already scheduled non-student day.

To check on school conditions for Wednesday, go to the district's Web site, where information will be posted either Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, depending on road conditions.

The district may also activate its emergency notification system to leave messages for parents with phones numbers available in its student records  system. More information is available here.

Here are some handy tips from Washington State Department of Transportation concerning snowy conditions—WSDOT recommends drivers prepare for winterlike driving conditions by:

  • Staying informed about weather and road conditions and making good decisions.
  • Planing ahead and allowing extra time to reach destinations. Drivers should expect lengthy delays if snow and ice mix with the commute.
  • Using WSDOT’s mobile apps to stay informed about changing road conditions.
  • Following Puget Sound area traffic conditions on Twitter with @WSDOT_traffic.
  • Checking the Seattle traffic map and cameras, listen to the Highway Advisory Radio or dialing 511.
  • Assembling an emergency car kit.
  • Knowing how to install tire chains. This WSDOT video takes drivers through the process step-by-step.
