New Year's Day: What's Open and Closed in Edmonds

Here's what you need to know for the Tuesday holiday.

Tuesday is New Year's Day, the first holiday of 2013.

If you are traveling, check out the Washington State Department of Transportation web pages to plan your route. Be sure to check traffic and weather conditions along Interstate 90 at Snoqualmie Pass, U.S. 2 at Stevens Pass, Interstate 5 near the U.S./Canadian border and I-5 between Olympia and Tacoma.

Here is a list of what’s open and what's closed:

Edmonds City Hall will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 1.

Edmonds School District is on winter break through Jan. 4. Classes resume Jan. 7.

Snohomish County government: Closed Tuesday.

U.S. Postal Service: Closed Tuesday.

Sno-Isle Libraries, including the Edmonds Library, will be closed Tuesday.

Community Transit buses won't operate Tuesday.

Sound Transit: Express buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Tuesday, Jan. 1. Sounder trains won't run Tuesday. Tacoma Link and Central Link will run on Sunday schedules on Tuesday.

State of Washington: Closed Tuesday.

Washington State Ferries: Routes will operate on revised and holiday schedules. Note that the winter sailing schedule started Dec. 30.

Federal government: Closed Tuesday.

Banks: Many, if not most, will be closed Tuesday. Check your local branch.
