Local Beer Will Be in Two Grocery Stores This Week

American Brewing Company is now bottling its Breakaway IPA.

American Brewing Company, which opened on the Edmonds waterfront five months ago, is now brewing beer for local grocery stores.

American Brewing just began bottling its best selling beer, Breakaway IPA. The 22-ounce bottles will be available by this Friday in the Thriftway on Ballinger Way and the Bothell QFC. Next week, the beer will debut in the Bellevue QFC.

American Brewing marketing director Julie Anderson said the brewery is currently in discussions with other grocery stores and plans to expand to more locations soon.

"We are really proud of the fact that we are bottling on the anniversary of our fifth month in business," Anderson said. "Pretty amazing!"

The exact price for a bottle of Breakaway IPA will be determined by the grocery stores, but should be around $4. American Brewing will also be selling bottles from out of the tasting room at $4.50 (includes tax) and a case of 12 at $48.50 (includes tax plus a 10% discount).

Breakaway IPA is the signature beer of Skip Madsen, who has been brewing for 25 years. He and American Brewing owner Neil Fallon teamed up to start the brewery earlier this year. Madsen, a goalie for a local men's hockey team, chose the name "Breakaway" to reflect his hobby. The bottled beer features a hockey player on the label.

"Skip is so excited by how receptive the craft beer community has been towards his Breakaway IPA," Anderson said. "It's been so well received that it was by far our first choice when deciding which of his beers should be the first to bottle."Β
