Great Escape: Beach Parks in Edmonds and Shoreline

Marina Beach Park and Richmond Beach Saltwater Park offer plenty of amenities and breathtaking views of Puget Sound and beyond.

Your teens are holding a car wash at the high school on Saturday. The grandparents volunteered to take the younger children to a movie Sunday afternoon. Your tweens take tap on Thursday evening. It’s your time. Take it.

Each week, we’ll tell you about one great idea to give you a much deserved break, and make your life a little easier. Maybe a whole lot easier.

Today comes two sandy destinations in Edmonds and Shoreline—city parks that are right on the beach and offer spectacular views.

At windswept Marina Beach Park in Edmonds, you won’t find it too daunting to find a parking spot this time of year. But during summer, especially on a warm day, it can be a challenge. There is a children’s playground, volleyball nets and several picnic tables both on the beach and on a grassy area. The log-strewn beach is dramatic, and from it you get eye-popping views of ferries, container ships and the Olympic Mountains. Adjacent to the park is a popular dog park.

Marina Beach Park is at the far south end of Admiral Way South in Edmonds.

In Shoreline, the views of water, mountains and boats are just as spectacular at . The access to the beach itself is a winding-road adventure, with three parking lots available on the steep downhill descent. Once out of your car, you take a short walk over a funky bridge that spans the BNSF railroad tracks. There are benches and tables, as well as barbecue grills. The offleash dog area is open during winter months. Beginning this week, all dogs must be on a leash through the end of October.

Richmond Beach Saltwater Park is at 2021 NW 190th St. in Shoreline.
