Edmonds Patch Welcomes New Editor

Brian Soergel has written stories for Patch for several months and has experience at three daily newspapers.

I welcome the opportunity to guide coverage of Edmonds Patch as interim editor as Heidi Dietrich finishes her last day today. Heidi has been extremely helpful with her input during the transition, and I thank her.

I have been a freelance writer for Edmonds Patch for several months, and have enjoyed discovering about the city and sharing it with readers. I have also stepped in for Heidi as vacation editor.

My experience includes my college newspaper, as well as three daily papers in Southern California.

I first visited Edmonds in the late 1980s—I have family here—and decided this is where I wanted to be. I have two teenage girls, both who attended . One has now graduated from , and the other is a junior.

As you can imagine, school issues are important to me. So is the working of the city council, which struggles with issues that are so important to Edmonds residents, such as growth and revenue. , and things are getting a bit contentious in city politics. It’s my intention to let you know what our local government is up to.

I am, by nature, a features and entertainment writer, so I search for topics in that vein. We have a , and you’ll soon be reading interviews with Lily Tomlin and many of the other great performers on the schedule.
