Edmonds Community College Chosen for National Program

Edmonds Community College is one of 30 colleges around the country selected this year to participate in the national Achieving the Dream program. The college joins a network that now includes 160 U.S. schools.

By signing on to the program, EdCC's staff agree to work with other member schools and Achieving the Dream staff to improve student performance and graduation rates. Each Achieving the Dream college will analyze its strengths and problem areas.

“Closing achievement gaps and improving student outcomes is extremely difficult work. The ambitious commitment from each of these thirty colleges is commendable,” said William Trueheart, President and CEO of Achieving the Dream.

Achieving the Dream was established in 2004 by the Lumina Foundation for Education and seven founding partner organizations. Achieving the Dream’s network now includes 160 institutions in 30 states and the District of Columbia, serving more than two million students.

Other Washington colleges selected for Achieving the Dream include Grays Harbor College, Lower Columbia College, Bellingham Technical College, Skagit Valley College, Spokane Falls Community College, Everett Commnity College, Whatcom Community College, and Clover Park Technical College.

The remaining colleges are in Texas, California, Maine, New Jersey, Oregon, Georgia, Kentucky, Ohio, Maryland, and Minnesota.

Achieving the Dream was able to bring on 30 new schools because of grants from College Spark Washington, the Meadows Foundation and The Greater Texas Foundation.
