Floretum Garden Club Workshop Centers on Paper Ornaments for the Holidays

Seattle artist April Richardson will lead a session on making paper with embedded seeds.

The Edmonds Floretum Garden Club is having the second in a series of garden workshops on Nov. 5 at Coldwell Banker Bain, 108 Ave. S, Edmonds.

The event, open to the public and part of the club's community ourtreach efforts, is from 10 a.m. to noon.

Seattle artist April Richardson will lead a session on making paper with embedded seeds. Participants can see how paper making with seeds is a creative way to make paper gift tags, enclosures and ornaments.

"They are perfect for the holidays," says club member and professional horticulturist Janice Noe.Β

The nonprofit Floretum Garden Club was formed in 1922. In 1956, it began an Edmonds tradition when it co-sponsored with the Chamber of Commerce the making of 50 hanging baskets for downtown beautification.

Each year, the club plants the hanging baskets and also plants flowers on the street corner at Fifth Avenue and Main Street. It holds an annual plant sale, and the next one is in May at PCC, with funds going to college studetns majoring in horticulture.

Club members assisted in the design process of the , now being renovated, and donated $12,000 to the project.
