What? Gas Prices Soar Overnight

They were supposed to come down, right? Feel free to vent right here.

Edmonds Patch reader Larry Maland nailed it today when he sent this email:

Gas price at my local Safeway went UP overnight. I thought gas prices were coming down and wonder if this is common in the area.

. It's happening .

I'm not sure why gas prices are going up locally, but they are. Yesterday, the 76 station on Edmonds Way in Westgate was $4.11 for unleader regular. Today, it's $4.25. When I put in a call to the station and asked why, I got the reply: "I couldn't tell ya."

Have the gas price gone up where you fill up, as well?

Could it be because a sunny weekend is ahead and lots of people will take advantage by hitting the roads?

If you know why gas prices are spiking in Puget Sound, let us know.

Or if you just want to vent (keep it PG rated!), sound off in our Comments section or take our poll.

In the meantime, you can go to the "Commute" tab on Edmonds Patch, where we have a list of the best gas prices in Edmonds and surrounding communties.

They have gone up in Marysville & Smokey Point, as well. I noticed it this morning.

On the way to work in Portland Oregon I saw that gas had gone up 10 cents since yesterday, but I didn’t have time to get gas before work and after work the very same station had raised it another dime while I was working. No news about today’s spike in gas on the internet at all – except for this story. I thought Iran or Israel were up to something, but either the oil companies know something we don’t or they have given up pretending and now are gouging without even a pretence.

I noticed its more greed by the owners of the stations. Thats why i see alot of 7 - 11 ' s pulling out from selling gas anymore. Especially when you have the big chain stores with discounts on gas as long as you shop with your cards to earn points for gas. I got .40 off yesterday at safeway so i paid $3.69 a gal for premium unleaded.

live in central washington (Wenatchee) regular was 4.03-4.05 yesterday, now it is 4.13-4.15 a gallon! I was in shock, as we thought we heard it was suppose to be going down!

I did to..that is what the news was saying it was 3.50 as an average here in Northern MN, they were saying that it was suppose to keep dropping..Walmart was 3.40, that was just a week ago. All of a sudden the gas stations around was 3.59 this past week, today its up to 3.75..I like to know whats up..so I stopped by & asked of course the clerks dont know, because they dont ask..I think thats the problem most people will just accept any answer, they will complain to themselves but not so much at the clerk..they dont ask..a lot of the customers just dont ask, I think its about time that we demand an answer. I have been told that the gas stations dont have say..they just get a phone call saying the gas prices are going up & so it automatically goes up..that's what were told..but I think they do have some control..just look at the inconsistency thru out the country its ridiculous! I think we ought to rant & rave. :)
