Washington Federal Opens Rebuilt Location in Edmonds

The Seattle-based financial institution had operated out of a temporary location on Fifth Avenue South while its original location was rebuilt.

It was in May 2010 that bank staff moved from 229 Main St. to a temporary location at Fifth Avenue South and Dayton Street. That site was formerly occupied by Horizon Savings, one of 18 branches Seattle-based Washington Federal Savings and Loan Association assumed after the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) shut down Horizon Bank in January 2010.

The original location on Main Street . The Fifth Avenue site was closed on Friday and accounts transferred to the new branch at Third and Main. 

The new bank, unlike the original and the temporary versions, has two drive-through lanes. It also has an ATM and a night depository.

One of two popular clocks from the original building was incorporated in the new design and can be seen from Third Avenue.

“We’re excited about our new office and the investment Washington Federal has made in the Edmonds downtown core,” said branch manager Jack Durney. 

The public is invited to stop by the bank for an open house the week of Sept. 6–9 during business hours. There will be an invitation-only evening reception and official ribbon cutting on Sept. 21.

Washington Federal operates 160 offices in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Texas and New Mexico.  Established in 1917, the Company provides residential real estate loans, commercial real estate financing, consumer deposit accounts and business banking.
