Swedish's Edmonds Hospital Ranked No. 7 in Washington State by U.S. News & World Report

The publication's annual hospital ranking considers patient death rates and physician surveys, among other factors.

The Edmonds hospital formerly known as Stevens and now called Swedish has been ranked No. 7 in Washington state as part of U.S. News & World Report's annual Best Hospitals survey.

The publication says its rankings were devised using patient death rates and physician surveys, among other factors. Nearly 4,800 hospitals around the nation were evaluated in 16 medical specialties, and the facilities designated as high performing in at least one of these areas were ranked at the state or regional level.

Here is what U.S. News & World Report had to say about Stevens, aka Swedish:

"Stevens Healthcare is a general medical and surgical hospital in Edmonds, WA. It performed nearly at the level of nationally ranked U.S. News Best Hospitals in 5 adult specialties, as shown below. It scored high in patient safety, demonstrating commitment to reducing accidents and medical mistakes. Stevens Healthcare has 161 beds. The hospital had 9,042 admissions in the latest year for which data are available. It performed 2,251 annual inpatient and 3,025 outpatient surgeries. Its emergency room had 43,718 visits."

University of Washington Medical Center topped the list for Washington state, followed by Kirkland's EvergreenHealth at No. 2 and Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children's Hospital in Spokane at No. 3.
