Romio's Will Become Kebella's Pizza & Pasta on May 1

Restaurant on Edmonds Way will specialize in Mediterranean cuisine mixing Italian, Greek and Bulgarian influences.

Beginning May 1, there will be no more confusion between two Edmonds restaurants with similar names: on Edmonds Way and on 76th Avenue West.

Romeo’s with an “e” isn’t going anywhere, but Romio’s with an “i” will be no more when it unveils a new name: Kebella’s Pizza & Pasta. The change comes after Romio’s Franchise Group filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November 2010. Since the restaurant, which has locations in Washington, Oregon and California, is franchised, individual restaurants could be closing or, in Edmonds’ case, getting a face-lift.

Actually, says Kebella’s owner Peter Stratiev, his restaurant has been undergoing changes that regular customers have been aware of for some time. Stratiev, who runs the restaurant with his wife, Petya, has been the owner for six years and has been expanding his menu regularly.

“People would tell me the food was better,” said Stratiev. A banner outside the restaurant announcing the name change reads: “Better Food. Better Prices. More Specials.” The menu reflects Stratiev’s heritage—he is Greek, and was raised in Bulgaria. The Mediterrean-style cuisine is a mix of Italian, Greek and Bulgarian recipes, many of them handed down from Stratiev’s grandparents.

“Everything here is made fresh,” said Stratiev, who offers dining, pick-up, home delivery and, coming soon, catering. The menu features gluten-free pizza, pasta, sandwiches, calzones, appetizers, salads and desserts. Among the new items to debut with the opening of Kebella’s are chicken Caesar and prosciutto subs.

Among the new pizza creations are the Venetian, which features grilled chicken, and Koko’s, with pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, mushrooms, mozzarella and parmesan.

Startiev said one of his most popular pizzas, the Edmonds Special, will remain. It has mushrooms, green peppers, onions, black olives, feta, mozzarella, fresh garlic, diced tomatoes, spinach and sunflower seeds topped with shredded pepperoni.

To coincide with the May 1 opening of Kebella’s—which takes its name, Startiev said, from an ancient Roman god—is an expanded social networking push through Facebook, Twitter and other avenues.

“If people have any questions,” said Stratiev, “just call or stop by.”

The future Kebella’s, which is still operating as Romio’s through the end of the month, is at 630 Edmonds Way. For more information, call 425-774-0284 or go to the official website, which will also be getting a new name.
