Iditarod Veteran Named Grand Marshal of Edmonds Fourth of July Parade

Jan Steves to "mush" through the heart of downtown Edmonds during parade, which is looking for marching bands.

The Edmonds Chamber of Commerce has announced that Iditarod veteran and Edmonds native Jan Steves has been named 2012 grand marshal of An Edmonds Kind of Fourth Parade.

Steves, the sister of European travel expert Rick Steves, is the second women from Washington State to have completed the Iditarod in Nome, AK.

Steves is a longtime resident of Edmonds—she's a 1974 graduate of Edmonds High School—and grew up loving the outdoors, from sea level to the mountain tops. She is an avid skier, biker, snowshoe enthusiast, boater, fisher and animal lover.

In 2008, she combined her love of mountains, snow and dogs to make mushing her passion.

In addition to the naming of Steves, the chamber is also accepting applications from marching bands wanted to perform during the parade. You can go to the chamber's Web site to download an application.
