Celtic Cowboy BBQ Abruptly Closes

Owner Steve Freeman, who says he has a health condition, plans to have another grand opening for Edmonds in the near future.

After opening his new retail version of Celtic Cowboy BBQ in Edmonds on Tuesday, owner Steve Freeman announced today that store will now be closed temporarily due to health issues.

“The Celtic Cowboy has fallen ill and will be out of commission for a few weeks,” said his wife and co-owner, Lisa Freeman, on a Facebook post. She added that he will be undergoing surgery tonight but did not specify why. “He is going to be fine, but we cannot do this without him. We sincerely apologize for the delay but we will announce another, even better grand opening when he gets back on his feet. Keep your eyes, ears and noses open for signs of when the smoke will return. Thanks again to everyone for your continued support.”

The new location, on 70th Avenue West just north of 212th Street Southwest, was to be open Tuesdays through Fridays, with expanded weekend hours in the summer. Tuesday’s grand opening saw a huge grand opening, with regular customers and those from surrounding businesses flocking to the store.

The Freeman moved to Edmonds in 2000 from Austin, TX, where Steve learned to smoke barbecue. All of Celtic Cowboy’s products are made from scratch with recipes created or inherited from their friends and family. Celtic Cowboy BBQ takes pride in their food; blending Scottish and Southern heritages to create smoked meats and fixings. They use a selection of local woods to slow smoke their meats.
