Boeing Announces 27 Orders for Everett-Made Jets, But Lags Airbus

The Heralds reports Boeing announced first-quarter sales of 209 jets, behind Airbus' 410, but including 27 new orders for 747s and 777s.

The Boeing Co. added 27 new orders for 747s and 777s built at Everett over the last week, but lagged behind Airbus in jet sales for the first quarter of 2012, The Herald reports.

In Thursday Airbus announced first quarter net orders of 410 jets, buoyed by a single sale of 234 single-aisle aircraft by Lion Air of Indonesia. Boeing Thursday reported net first-quarter orders of 209 jets.

Boeing's suffered a cancellation for eight 777s, also reported Thursday, and one cancellation for a 737. But it is expected to soon finalize an order for 787s from IAG, the parent company of British Airways. Boeing's order book also doesn't include an order from Ryanair for 175 737s, a deal announced last month.

Most of Airbus’ 2012 orders are for A320 jets, with 394 orders.
