Be at the Center of It All: Volunteer for Edmonds' Popular Summer Market

Volunteer shifts are needed for the summer version of the market, which runs Saturdays from June 30 to Oct. 6 (except Aug. 11).

Want to go behind the scenes and help with this year's version of the Edmonds Museum Summer Market?

Volunteer opportunities are now available for the summer version of the market, which runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays from June 30 to Oct. 6. There will be no market on Aug. 11 due to A Taste of Edmonds.

The smaller version version of the market, the , has been and continues 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays through June 23 at the Public Safety Lot at Fifth and Bell.

Edmonds’ Summer Market was started 18 years ago by a group of volunteers from the Edmonds-South Snohomish County Historical Society. Today, the market is still run by volunteers, and all proceeds go to support the mission of the historical society and museum.

The museum’s market committee is in need of additional people to help run their museum sales (or white elephant) booth each Saturday. Volunteers of all ages are needed to help set up and take down the sales booth, as well as sell merchandise during market hours.

This year, the sales booth will be located on the lawn area in front of the museum.

Volunteer shifts are between two and four hours.

Volunteers are needed in the following areas

  • Booth set up, 7:-8:30 a.m. Set up shelters, set up tables, unload truck and help salespeople unpack.
  • Sales shifts, 7:30-11:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m-3:30 p.m. First shift: Unpack boxes, meet and greet shoppers and sell items. Second shift: meet and greet shoppers and sell items; repack boxes at end of day.
  • Booth take-down, 3-5 p.m. Help repack boxes at end of day, load truck, take down shelters, store tables and help empty the truck and reload for the next Saturday.

Those interested in volunteering can contact Bill and Katie Brougher at katiebrocker@gmail.com or call the museum at (425) 774-0900.

Cassy said on Facebook (sorry to those having trouble logging in today!): Would love to have aRead More splash pad and yes please move it so it is in the full sun. If you are going to have a splash pad we need to take advantage of the sunshine.

A splash pad would be great, but that space is so shady - maybe next to the skateboard park instead.Read More

If you want to know what it's like to have your religion disrespected, try having school camps,Read More orchestra and band concerts and back-to-school nights on the holiest of your religious holidays (equivalent to Christmas and Easter). Everyone knows that an egg hunt is an Easter event whether it's called that or not. Everyone know that a holiday tree is really a Christmas tree. Trust me, the atheists and/or non-Christians are not trying to destroy Christianity. First, it would be impossible. Second, it would be too dangerous to us personally. Last, I personally respect other's traditions, but I'm not sure the same can always be said in reverse.

Don't we have more important things to worry about? Easter Egg, Egg Hunt, who cares? It's a funRead More community event. And thank you to the sponsers that make this happen.

First of all, the government is not supposed to promote any religion. Secondly, the Easter bunnyRead More and egg hunt has no historical religious significance that I can think of, even though this is part of an American tradition. I am good with deleting the word Easter, and would like to see a departure from any emphasis on candy, which only compounds the diabetic epidemic in this country. Sometimes it is good to rethink the wisdom of something simply because it is a "tradition".
