Machinists with BAE Systems approve three-year contract

EVERETT — Members of Machinists Union District Lodge 751 who work for BAE Systems unanimously ratified a new three-year contract with the company in August.

Under the contract, the Machinists at BAE will receive a raise of 3 percent in the first year, and raises of 2.5 percent in each of the second and third years.
The contract also maintains defined benefit pensions for the workers, improves seniority language and introduces a new medical plan under which BAE will pay 90 percent of premium costs.

The contract covers a small umber of District 751 members who work for BAE testing and installing flight deck equipment. BAE supplies flight decks for all Boeing aircraft except the 787.

“I wouldn't have the lifestyle I have now if it wasn't for 751,” said Ray Orton, a Machinist with BAE. “I have always appreciated how our union fights for us.”

Originally formed in 1935 to represent hourly workers at the Boeing Co., District Lodge 751 of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers now represents some 33,000 working men and women at 49 employers across Washington, Oregon and California.
