The event is sponsored by the Women’s Committee of Machinists Union District Lodge 751, and all proceeds will go to benefit Guide Dogs of America, a California-based charity that provides service dogs to people across North America who are blind or have impaired vision. In 2010, Machinists Union member Dennis Meech of Goldendale received a guide dog through Guide Dogs of America. He is the first member of District 751 to receive help through the organization.

Last year’s fun run raised more than $10,000 for Guide Dogs of America, part of the more than $276,000 raised by District 751, which made it the top contributor to the charity nationwide.

Originally formed in 1935 to represent hourly workers at Boeing, Machinists District 751 now represents more than 26,500 working men and women at 44 employers across Washington, Oregon and California.  In 2010, District 751 members gave nearly 6,200 hours of volunteer community service and raised more than $276,000 for Guide Dogs of America, the union’s charity of choice.
