Machinists set date for charity horseshoe tournament

Machinists Union Local Lodge 751-E's 10th annual Shoes for Puppies horseshoe tournament will be Aug. 10 in Renton.

RENTON — The 10th annual Shoes for Puppies horseshoe tournament will be Aug. 10 near Renton.

It will start at noon on Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Red Dog Saloon, 18606 Renton-Maple Valley Road SE.

The annual tournament is sponsored by Machinists Union Local Lodge 751-E and is a fundraiser for Guide Dogs of America, the California-based charity that provides service dogs to people from across the United States and Canada who are blind or have impaired vision.

Last year’s tournament raised more than $2,000.

Local 751-E is affiliated with Machinists Union District Lodge 751, which is the top fundraiser in North America for Guide Dogs of America. Over the past four years, the union has raised more than $1 million for the charity, including a record $299,000 in 2012.

Originally formed in 1935 to represent hourly workers at Boeing, District Lodge 751 of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers now represents more than 33,000 working men and women at 49 employers across Washington, Oregon and California.
