Summer Mural Project Nears Completion

The Edmonds Mural Society expects all five murals to be done by Aug. 25th.

Three new murals have been completed in downtown Edmonds this summer, and the final two should be done by Aug. 25.

The mural designs and artists were selected by the Edmonds Mural Society. All of the murals fit with this year's theme, "Hidden Treasures of Edmonds," and emphasize the natural beauty of the town. Once all five are painted, downtown Edmonds will be home to 11 murals.

The project's third mural was completed on Aug. 3 by Edmonds artist Joel Patience. Entitled "Edmonds To Starboard," the mural depicts a sailboat and sea. It can be found on the wall facing 4th Avenue at 401 Main Street.

Two other murals were painted earlier this summer. "Flying Heron," by Edmonds artist Sue Coccia, features a heron and images of the flora and fauna found within Edmonds Marsh. This mural is located behind Housewares at 318 Main Street, facing 4th Avenue.

"The Brothers," by Edmonds muralist Andy Eccleshall, depicts the snow-capped Olympic Mountain peaks called The Brothers. The mural can be found in the alley beside The Papery at 410 Main St.

Artists are currently painting the final two murals. Since Aug. 10, artist Michiko Tanaka has been working on "Edmonds Waterpark," a mural featuring the underwater sanctuary off the shore of Edmonds. The mural is on the wall of Waterfront Coffee Company at 101 Main Street.

A fifth mural, Michelle Bear's "Avian Landscape," is being painted on the wall of McDevitt & Andreason at 4th Avenue and Dayton Street.
