Second City Touring Company Returns to Edmonds on Saturday

The famed Chicago comedy group was formed 52 years ago and has started the careers of John Candy, Martin Short, Jane Lynch, Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell, among others.

The Second City comedy troupe returns to the Edmonds Center for the Arts on Saturday.ย 

Second City began in Chicago in 1959, launched by a group of creative and intellectual University of Chicago students in an environment that was ripe for social and political satire. Their popularity quickly spread with their first Broadway appearance in 1961 and their first London appearance in 1962.

The Second City firmly established its comedy reputation with the debut of Saturday Night Live in 1974, featuring Second City alumni John Belushi, Dan Ackroyd, Bill Murray and Gilda Radner.ย 

The company that launched the careers of John Candy, Martin Short, Jane Lynch, Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell and many more now features a new generation providing sketch comedy and improvisation.

Scheduled to perform in Edmonds are Chris Witaske, Lyndsay Hailey, Barry Hite, Nicole C. Hastings and Tim Stoltenberg. Collectively, they are known as Second City's touring company, Laugh Out Loud.

Second City performs Saturday at 7:30 at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N.. Tickets are $15-$40 and available at www.ec4arts.org or (425) 275-9595.
