Oil Paintings on Display as Part of Upcoming Writers' Conference

Artist and author Marcia Shaver will talk about her new book on Oct. 18 as part of Third Thursday Art Walk.

The City of Edmonds Arts Commission and the Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation are presenting the work of Marcia Shaver for a joint exhibit in the EAC Display Case and the EAF Museum Gallery in conjunction with the annual Write on the Sound Writers’ Conference Oct. 5-7.

The exhibit will be on display through Oct. 30 in the Frances Anderson Center.

Shaver’s oil paintings and sketches shown in the exhibit are from her journey along the Camino de Santiago, or Way of St. James, an ancient Pilgrimage route across Spain.

In her recent book, The Artist’s Journey: The Perfumed Pilgrim Tackles the Camino de Santiago, the artist combines her passion for drawing and her love of travel. Readers are compelled to join Shaver and her well-chosen walking companion as they set a pace that permits time to draw and drink in the revitalizing countryside during the 1,299,851-step pilgrimage across Spain.

Writing and journaling have always been important to her artwork and, regardless of the medium, Shaver’s strong sense of the graphic keeps her art grounded. She works in a variety of mediums and her prints and original paintings are featured in private and corporate collections internationally.  She taught art at the high school level and now instructs adults within the art community.
