Needle Art: More Than Just Mending Socks at Edmonds Museum Exhibit

The 2011 Pacific Northwest Needle Arts Guild Fiber Show is open at the Edmonds Historical Museum.

Walk into the and you will see an old craft in a new light. The Pacific Northwest Needle Arts Guild, based in Seattle, is showing a collection of pieces from its members in its 2011 Fiber Show.

The organization, founded in 1972, fosters the craft of needle art and encourages members in their pursuit of various techniques and designs. It also host classes for both members and non-members alike.

But it’s not just knitting needles and spools of yarn that dominate the guild's meetings.

“There are more than 40 works of art in this exhibit,” explained museum director Tarin Erickson, gesturing to cases filled with jewelry, quilts and clothing. “The needle arts consist of anything you can create with a needle.”

The exhibit, which opened on Wednesday, is not the first show the guild has presented at the museum. According to Erickson, they have had at least four shows before, but this is the first she has hosted as director.
