The Driftwood Players is proud to present a staged-reading performance of Larry Kramer’s Tony Award Winning play “The Normal Heart” in a limited, 2-day engagement.  Kramer’s chronicle of the beginning of AIDS crisis in 1984 New York is alternately angry and tender, as the protagonist takes on the government, the medical establishment, the media, and even his own gay community to help those he loves.  Shattering and true, the play reverberates with rights withheld and dignity quashed.

Directed by Carissa Meisner Smit

And featuring

Machelle Allman, Roy Arauz, Terrence Boyd, Keith A. Gehrig, Thomas Glass, Robert Hankins, Greg LoProto, and David Alan Morrison.

Seattle Lifelong AIDS Alliance is committed to preventing the spread of HIV, and to providing practical support services and advocating for those whose lives are affected by HIV and AIDS.  Every 9 1/2 minutes, another person in the United States becomes infected with HIV.  In 2010 there were an estimated 320 new infections in King County alone, 500 in WA State.   90% of them are male: our sons, our brothers, our friends.  “The Normal Heart” reminds us all that our love for each other is the only force that can save us.
