Luftwaffe Day

At noon, Saturday, August 6, 2011, the Flying Heritage Collection will host its annual Luftwaffe Day, highlighted by the debut flight of its recently acquired German Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-5. This event is a free-to-the-public aerial display held as part of the Collection’s annual Summer Fly Day series. The Fw 190 A-5 will fly alongside its German counterpart, the Messerchmitt Bf 109 E-3, as well as the Collection’s other German plane, the Fieseler FI 156 C-2 Storch.

During World War II, the Luftwaffe was considered one of the most modern, powerful and experienced air forces in the world. The Bf 109 was widely recognized as the backbone of the Luftwaffe during the war, while the Fw 190 is regarded as Germany's best fighter aircraft.

The Collection’s Fw 190 A-5 is the only one of its kind in the world that has been restored to its original flying condition. This aircraft was originally slated for its public debut flight earlier this June, but was unable to take to the skies due to inclement weather. The restored plane’s inaugural flight will be noon, Saturday, August 6, 2011. The public is invited to this free event.
