Edmonds Library Welcomes 'Sensing Light,' a Collection of Northwest Landscapes

A new art exhibit features painter Lanie Franza, known for her familiar and engaging depictions of local landscapes.

A new art exhibit featuring Northwest landscapes opens at the Edmonds Library this Wednesday.

"Sensing Light" is a collection of landscapes from Seattle painter Lanie Franza, who enjoys creating pieces that resonate with viewers. Her work will be on display at the library from June 19 to July 31.

Here is some additional info about Franza from the Edmonds Arts Commission:

Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Franza studied at Stevenson Academy of Fine Arts, New York and Gage Academy, Seattle ,WA.  The works of JMW Turner and JBC Corot have been major influences on her style. By glazing multiple layers of oil color, she achieves the profuse, luminous quality of early morning or late afternoon light. Her paintings have been described by collectors as rich, lush, elegant and evocative. “Vibrant color, powerful composition and a sense of movement throughout the painting are elements I use to generate interest and hold the attention of the viewer.”

Since moving to Seattle in 1995, Franza has painted numerous commissioned works. These include 34 paintings for 22 individuals and a total of 14 paintings for Zymogenetics, Seattle Science Foundation and Gonzaga University combined. Her work is included in the collections of Columbia Presbyterian Children’s Hospital, New York and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Seattle, WA.   Her dancer paintings appear on the wine labels of Chateau Rollat’s (Walla Walla, WA) 2009 and 2010 “Artist Series” releases.
