Edmonds Library Exhibit: Impact of Our Footprints Examined in Mixed Media

The library's current exhibit comes from Richmond Beach artist Judith Heim.

A mixed media exhibit by Richmond Beach artist Judith Heim, presented by the Edmonds Arts Commission, is currently on display at the through April 28.

The paintings, which focuses on the human impact on the environment, are from a series called “Landscapes Interrupted.” It's a reference to the footprint which people leave on the environment.

Heim’s work in this series is mixed media collage with the base painting primarily in acrylic ink combined with pastel, colored pencil and watercolor crayon. She says that her work is “purely personal expression.”

Spontaneity is an important aspect and she says most of her paintings are not premeditated. “I decided early on that I did not want my art to be a noun. I like to create visual metaphors and maybe even a dangling participle or two. I see it as a celebration of the journey.”

Heim received her design and art education at Stephens College in Columbia, MO, and at Cornish School of Allied Arts in Seattle. She is a member of Women Painter’s of Washington, Northwest Collage Society, Seattle Co-Arts, Artists Connect and a past board member of the Kirkland Arts Center.
