Edmonds Arts Commission’s Summer Concert Series: August 27th and 29th

Join the Edmonds Arts Commission for Summer Concerts in the Parks, with Toy Box Trio, Tuesday, Aug. 27, in the Hazel Miller Plaza and Alma y Azucar on Thursday, Aug. 29 in the Hazel Miller Plaza.

Toy Box Trio – Tuesday, August 27, Noon, in the Hazel Miller Plaza

Through the whimsical combination of concertina, toy-piano and double bass, Toy-Box Trio enables audiences to experience through-composed music in an entirely new way. A natural extension of the classical piano trio--a staple in chamber repertoire--extended into the modern age, the Trio infuses the concert hall experience with a world of dusty old music boxes, haunted carnivals, and a "neo-cabaret" aesthetic. Toy-Box Trio lulls energized crowds into silent, active listening as they create an intimate atmosphere peppered with jokes, factoids, and a relaxed presentation. The show begins at 12:00 pm in the Hazel Miller Plaza, located at 5th and Maple in downtown Edmonds. The Hazel Miller Concerts are generously sponsored by the Hazel Miller Foundation.

Alma y Azucar – Thursday, August 29, 5:00 pm, in the Hazel Miller Plaza

Alma y Azúcar brings you an exquisite and passionate selection of Latin styles and flavors. Playing a wide range of Latin music beyond the traditional salsa, the new group features instrumentation including violin, trumpet and tres (Cuban guitar). Band leader, Alma Villegas started her professional music career in 2001 when she was asked to perform with two of Seattle's most popular Latin salsa music ensembles. Her experiences in these two ensembles reconnected her to her youth in Mexico and led her to create a band that offered a more diverse selection including the traditional bolero (Latin ballad), cha-chas, mid-tempo Latin jazz standards, a variety of Cuban rhythms, salsa and bossa novas. The show begins at 5:00 pm in the Hazel Miller Plaza, located at 5th and Maple in downtown Edmonds. The Hazel Miller Concerts are generously sponsored by the Hazel Miller Foundation.
