Cascade Symphony Will Perform in Edmonds Today

Cascade Symphony will perform Beethoven's Symphony #3 at the Edmonds Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m.

This evening, Edmonds residents can attend an evening of classical music by the regionally-renowned Cascade Symphony orchestra. The concert will take place at Edmonds Center for The Arts at 7:30 p.m.

Billing itself as Heroic Beethoven, the season’s final concert consists of Beethoven’s Symphony #3, called the “Eroica,” which is Italian for heroic.

Music director and conductor Michael Miropolsky will be leading an orchestra of 85 musicians through Beethoven’s classical pieces for approximately one hour and 45 minutes.

Roberta McBride, a member of the orchestra as well as part of the organizers, said the musicians are "people from all walks of life who love playing great music with each other.”

This event and other Cascade Symphony concerts have traditionally been held on Mondays. According to McBride, the day works for all the musicians and the conductor. There is also less competition with other concerts than on weekends and Edmonds Center for the Arts' performing hall is more easily available.

McBride explained that the venue was appropriate because the orchestra has performed in the 704-seat auditorium for most of its 49-year existence. “Cascade Symphony was instrumental in [the auditorium’s] renovation. It is now the best hall in the area, in which we take great pride,” McBride said.

Cascade Symphony rehearses once a week from Labor Day through mid-May every year and performs five full subscription concerts, a children’s concert and a chamber music concert each season.

The orchestra has been practicing for Heroic Beethoven since early April.

McBride hopes that the upcoming concert will add to the rich cultural life of the community with its fine, exhilarating music.

“The music is wonderful, the conductor is charming, the musicians love every minute, and we hope the audience will enjoy the result,” he said.
